Synopsis of Minutes of January 14, 2025
Township Board Meeting
A Township Board Meeting of the Charter Township of Garfield was held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the Garfield Township Hall, 3848 Veterans Drive, Traverse City, Michigan. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. and the Board transacted the following business:
- Public Comment – None
- Added Road Commission Report as Item f1. under Reports and MDOT Traffic Signal Replacement as Item 7e. under Unfinished Business. Approved the Amended Agenda
- Approved the December 5, 9, and 10, 2024 meeting minutes
- Approved the Consent Calendar as presented
- Received the County Commissioner’s Report from Lauren Flynn and Fern Spence
- Received the Sheriff’s Report from Lt. Roy Raska
- Received GT Metro Fire Department’s Report from Chief Paul Mackin
- Received the MMR Report from Amy Fairchild
- Received Planning Department’s Report for January in writing
- Received Parks & Rec Report in writing
- Received the GT County Road Commission Report for Alan Leman
- Received the Township Manager’s Report from Chris Barsheff
- Approved scheduling a Joint Planning Commission and Township Board meeting on February 26, with a 6:00 pm start time suggested.
- Received Supervisor’s Report from Joe McManus
- No one commented during the Public Hearing on Amendment 1 to the Storm Water Control Ordinance No. 49. Board approved Resolution 2025-01-T adopting the amendment to the ordinance.
- Fern Spence commented during the Public Hearing on the Control of Soil Erosion & Sedimentation Ordinance No. 78. Board approved Resolution 2025-02-T adopting the ordinance.
- The Board approved drafting a letter to the Traverse City Commission regarding the water issue and asking the City Commission to be on their meeting agenda.
- The Board approved adopting a modified version of the current Township logo (Version 2A with white border in the packet) as the new Township logo for the website and other printed materials.
- Approved upgrading the previously approved mast arm traffic signals at Meijers and Lowes on US 31 by requesting green painted poles for a cost of $16,000 for both.
- Board approved the Organization Chart dated 1/14 that was distributed at the meeting with the change in the Assessor’s title
