Synopsis of Minutes of October 8, 2024

Township Board Meeting

A Township Board Meeting of the Charter Township of Garfield was held on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the Garfield Township Hall, 3848 Veterans Drive, Traverse City, Michigan. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. and the Board transacted the following business:

1. Public Comment –None
2. Approved the Agenda as presented accepting Barsheff’s conflict with item 7a.
3. Approved the following minutes: 

• September 10, 2024 regular meeting
• October 2, 2024 study session
• September 5, 19, and 26, 2024 special meetings

4. Removed item 3e. from the Consent Calendar and approved the amended Consent Calendar
5. Discussed item 3e. and approved Resolution 2024-15-T (amended) changing the applicant’s name  (High Tops TC, LLC) and address
6. Received the County Commissioner’s Report from Brad Jewett and Lauren Flynn
7. Received the Sheriff’s Report from Lt. Roy Raska
8. Received the GT Metro Fire Report from Chief Paul Mackin
9. Received the MMR Report from Operations Manager Amy Fairchild
10. Received the Planning Department Report from John Sych
11. Received the Parks & Rec. Report from Derek Morton
12. Received the Treasurer’s Report from Chloe Macomber
13. Received the Clerk’s Report from Lanie McManus
14. Received the Supervisor’s Report from Chuck Korn
15. Approved staying with the current Township Manager’s contract with two weeks vacation.
16. Held a Public Hearing on Zoning Ordinance R-3 District Amendment and approved Resolution 2024-25-T
17. Approved the bid of $43,055 from Premier Outdoors for Logan’s Landing landscape services. Board also approved having the landscaping committee work with Premier Outdoors for a services bid for Woodmere using pavers, sedum and trees, not to exceed $60,000
18. Board discussed the Township logo and seal and recommended Chuck Korn contact the designer from New Moon Visions to ask for additional options based on their comments
19. Public Comment:

a)      Joe McManus commented on the Township logo and recommended advertising for open positions on various Township commissions and boards

b)      Alisa Korn gave an update on the Road Commission

The Meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
