Garfield Township Community

Garfield Township is a Charter Township in Grand Traverse County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the population was 13,840 persons. When 2010 Census results are released, it is expected that the Township will surpass the City of Traverse City in population and tax base.

The Township measures 27.8 square miles in area and is bordered by the City of Traverse City, Elmwood Township, Long Lake Township, Blair Township, and East Bay Charter Township. The Boardman River divides the eastern third from the western two-thirds of the Township, and roughly half of Boardman Lake is within Township boundaries. Another significant water body within the Township is Silver Lake.
